“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”
— Proverbs 31:25 (NIV)

To the Girl Who Never Gave Up — A letter to my daughter, Gillian

Dear Gillian,

From the very beginning, you’ve been a fighter.

I’ve watched you walk through storms that would’ve broken others… and yet, here you are. Not only standing, but carrying three beautiful children, holding your head high, and still searching for peace, purpose, and strength. You are the definition of resilience.

You are the girl who never gave up, even when the world gave you every reason to.

You inspire me. You inspire me with the way you love your babies. With how you rise after being knocked down. With how your heart still hopes even when it’s been bruised. You are tender and fierce. Wounded and healing. Messy and magical. You are real, and that’s what makes you unforgettable.

I see how far you’ve come. Through heartbreak, hard decisions, surgeries, and hospital visits… Through losing yourself and finding pieces of you again. Through relationships that didn’t deserve you and memories that still sting. But you didn’t let it define you. You let it shape you.

You’ve shown courage when it was easier to shut down. You’ve chosen your children over comfort, again and again. And even when it seemed like no one saw it—you kept going. And I saw it. I see you.

There’s nothing in this world you can’t rebuild. There’s no shame in starting over, in breaking down, in feeling it all. There’s beauty in the way you keep loving, keep learning, and keep trying.

So here’s what I want you to remember:

You are worthy of the peace you crave.

You are capable of rising to your highest potential.

You are enough not someday, but right now.

You are a mother, a survivor, a woman of grit, and a light in this family.

I am proud of you, Gillian. Deeply, endlessly proud.

And no matter what tomorrow looks like, I’ll always believe in you. You carry the same fire in your heart that made me love being your mom from the very beginning.

Keep walking. Keep choosing growth. Keep remembering who you are when life tries to make you forget.

To the girl who never gave up, thank you for showing us how strong love can be.

With all my heart, Mom

To my daughter Gillian

I don’t say it enough, but you are the reason I kept breathing some days.
You made me brave when I wanted to run.
You made me proud when I felt like I failed.
I see your fire, your brilliance — and I know the world’s not ready for you.
But you’re going to change it anyway.
